Drug-Free Workplace

Health Recovery Services, Inc.(HRS) offers a full array of technical assistance services for entities that are considering or have made the decision to implement a Drug-Free Workplace Program (DFWP). A brief description of each service is provided below. More detailed information about each service is available upon request. Please note that each Drug- Free Workplace Program is individualized; therefore, cost and benefits for each entity may vary:



Drug-Free Workplace Program Education and Information Dissemination

This is the initial contact session where entities receive a brief information session that will answer the following questions:
 
  • What is a Drug-Free Workplace Program?
  • What are general primary and secondary benefits of implementing a Drug-Free Workplace Program?
  • What is the general cost of implementing a Drug-Free Workplace Program?
  • How long does it take for implementation?
  • How can HRS help you in your implementation?
Cost: None


Consultation on Policy and Procedure and Grant Writing
Health Recovery Services, Inc. will provide consultation during the development of policies and procedures as well as grant writing consultation. Based upon the information gathered from the Cost Benefit and Assessment Phase, HRS can provide the anticipated time required to complete this process. It is recommended that the entity seek legal counsel prior to finalizing any policies and procedures. It is the responsibility of the entity to ensure that the policies and procedures are legally appropriate for the specifics of its company.
Cost: $100.00 per hour




Overview of Drug-Free Workplace Policy
The Drug-Free Workplace Policy accomplishes two major things:
  1. Sends a clear message that use of alcohol and drugs in the workplace is prohibited.
  2. Encourages employees who have problems with alcohol and other drugs to voluntarily seek help
The policy exists to:
  • Protect the health and safety of all employees, customers and the public
  • Safeguard employer assets from theft and destruction
  • Protect trade secrets
  • Maintain product quality and company integrity and reputation
  • Comply with the Drug-Free Workplace Act of 1988 or any other applicable federal, state or local laws


Urine Drug Screen (UDS) Collections
Health Recovery Services, Inc. provides specimen collections for the following services:
  • New employee UDS
  • Post accident UDS
  • Reasonable suspicion UDS
  • Random UDS
  • Follow up after return to work, after assessment or treatment UDS
At special request UDS Cost: Based upon the total number of employees


Drug-Free Workplace Employee and Supervisor Training
Health Recovery Services, Inc. will provide annual DFWP employee and supervisor training by certified DFWP Trainers. There are two training programs available as specified for compliance to Ohio Bureau of Worker's Compensation Drug- Free Workplace Programs. Training hour requirements are different for each program. Materials that are provided are included in the cost structure.

Training Program EZ-DFWP: Provided for businesses with 25 or less employees
Cost:
$150.00  1 hour Employee Education

$300.00  2 hour Supervisor Training

Training Program DFWP: Provided for businesses with 26 or more employees
Cost:
$300.00  2 hour Employee Training (Maximum 40 Employees per training Session)

$600.00  4 hour Supervisor Training (Maximum 40 Employees per training Session
)



Objectives of Training

At the end of the training, employees should be familiar with the Drug-Free Workplace Policy and aware of the dangers of alcohol and drug abuse.


Employees should understand:
  • The requirements of the Drug-Free Workplace Policy.
  • The prevalence of alcohol and drug abuse and its impact on the workplace
  • How to recognize the link between poor performance and/or alcohol and drug abuse
  • The progression of the disease of addiction
  • What types of assistance may be available
Supervisors should understand:
  • The different components of the Drug-Free Workplace Policy
  • Their role in implementing the Drug-Free Workplace Policy
  • How to identify and investigate crisis situations
  • How to recognize workplace problems that may be related to employee use of alcohol and other drugs
  • How to intervene in problem situations
  • How to refer employees who have problems with alcohol and other drugs
  • How to protect employee confidentiality
  • How to continue to supervise employees who have been referred to assistance related to problems with alcohol and other drugs
  • How to avoid enabling and common supervisor traps
